Rough Crowd Academy: Vancouver, BC, April 15 weekend

Posted on Updated on

These are details for the pilot program for Rough Crowd Academy. Our prototype weekend will be in Vancouver BC on April 15 weekend. We’re really excited about this relaunch. (For more background, read more on this page describing what’s going on.)

Details are still coming together, but this is the outline of the weekend and some things you’ll need to know. We hope you join us.

Rough Crowd Academy is a full weekend intensive. It is designed as an immersive experience with a small class, to cover a comprehensive skill set from basics and safety through advanced techniques, refining skills, practice, and exam. We’ll cover techniques for control, pain titration, biomechanics and working less to do more, and understanding why these things work in our brains. Because each part of the weekend builds off the foregoing parts, there is no late entry to Rough Crowd Academy.

NO LATE ENTRY. Doors will close 10 minutes past 10am on Saturday morning. If you arrive late you will not be permitted entrance, and you will forfeit your ticket. We have a lot to cover, and it’s not fair to others in the class to make them wait while we go back over things we’ve already covered.

Tickets are $120 USD/person. Your ticket price includes 2 full days of classes, plus admission to the play party at Rascals Saturday night to show off – er, “practice” – what we’ve learned all day.

The weekend schedule looks like this:

Friday:

We will have a meet and greet at a local bar (still working out a location on that; stay tuned). This is a chance for me to meet all of you and for you to meet everyone who will be in class with you all weekend. Chances are you’ll know some people, and not others. It won’t be a super late night; we’ve got a long weekend ahead of us!

Payment will be like a munch: just buy something from the bar.

Saturday:

9:30 am – Doors open. We’ll still be setting up, but come on in, bring your coffee or bagel, get comfortable and socialize and caffeinate.

10:00 am – Class starts

10:10 am – Doors close. No late entry past this point. (If you miss this, you miss both days.)

Lunch on your own; lunch will happen somewhere around 12:30/1:00-ish, depending on how quickly we move through the morning material. There are many good places to get food within walking distance of the venue.

There will be several breaks through the afternoon to socialize, practice, sit quietly, or just rest your brain.

5:00 pm – Day 1 of class ends.

Dinner on your own

9:00 pm – Play party at Rascal’s

Sunday:

9:30 am – Doors open. Come caffeinate, groan, and stretch with all your new best friends.

10:00 am – Class starts

10:10 am – Doors close

Lunch will happen around 12:30/1:00. Several breaks through the afternoon again.

4:00 pm – The first Rough Crowd Academy will conclude!

4:05 pm – Focus Group – tell us about your experience at the pilot Rough Crowd Academy. What was awesome? What can we do better?

5:00 pm – A huge thank you, and everyone goes home.

What to Bring:

  • Comfortable clothes you can move freely in
  • Water bottle
  • Snacks to keep your energy up through the day
  • Cash for lunch

Rough Crowd Gear

We’ll bring a small selection of Rough Crowd t-shirts etc. for sale, but as we discovered last time, our credit card processor doesn’t work in Canada. As a work-around, you can buy a selection of Rough Crowd gear when you buy your ticket to the intensive. You’ll be presented with add-ons for your ticket, and all you have to do is order them there; you’ll be able to pick them up when you check in on Saturday morning.
