A typical Rough Crowd Academy weekend is either a two-day intensive, or two single-day intensives back to back. Individual weekends may vary.

This is the general schedule that a Rough Crowd Academy weekend with two independent classes follows.


Saturday: Foundations

Class starts

  • Overview of the day’s agenda
  • Rough Crowd Ground Rules
  • Introduction of basic concepts used
  • Safety
  • Before you play
  • Basic strikes, movements, sensations, and techniques
    • Swing – fundamental body movement
    • Open hand – a variety of techniques

Lunch

  • Crawl before you walk – learning, practicing, and discussing basic forms
    • Punching – not as simple as it sounds
    • Hand positions
    • Discussion
    • Variations

Break

  • Check in
  • Putting it all together – using what we’ve learned so far
  • How to use rough body play in a scene
  • Small demo scenes
  • Day 1 wrap-up
